The Museum of Fine Arts for Curious People
Meeting point
Discover Buenos Aires through its paintings. Who painted the first views of Buenos Aires? How were the civil wars represented? Why did the pampas and gauchos become the “national landscape” during the formation of the nation-state?
Who was the “one-armed man of Curupaytí”? What was the Generation of 1880, and how did it influence the institutionalization of the local artistic field? What place did mass immigration occupy in the canvases of the time?
We will also discuss how the 20th-century artistic avant-gardes—Futurism, Cubism, and Surrealism—impacted vernacular art, and what the particular response of the “La Boca artists” and “the artists of the people” was through their social realism.
If art is a symptom of the culture of an era, how can we understand our present? Dare to think about it with us!
Practical information: The Museum has a suggested contribution of AR$ 7,000, which can be paid at the entrance.
